Derek Lewis to return

Lewis will take on former champion Werdum at UFC 216

Derek Lewis’ retirement has been very short lived as he is set to make a return to the octagon.

Lewis will take on former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 216 on October 7th. Lewis announced his retirement from the sport back in June after he was knocked out by fellow heavyweight Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 110.

Former champion Werdum is coming into this bout after losing to Alistair Overeem at UFC 213, before that he beat Travis Browne via a decision – Werdum ended a six fight winning streak back in May 2016 when he was knocked out by Stipe Miocic losing the UFC heavyweight title.

UFC 216 will be headlined an interim title bout between current Lightweight Interim Title holder Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee – The bout was originally supposed to be between Ferguson and number one contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, however, the bout did not materialise and so Kevin Lee has been given the bout instead.

Also featuring on the October 7th card is Will Brooks as he takes on Nik Lentz, Bobby Green will face off against Lando Vannata. Evan Dunham will take on Beneil Dariush.

Paige Van Zant will also make her octagon return when she takes on Jessica Eye, it is unknown at this time if Lewis vs Werdum will be on the PPV segment of the card or the prelims.
