Jones has been at the centre of controversy throughout his professional mixed martial arts career, however, maintains his innocence this time and his team feels that the issue will be resolved sooner rather than later. ‘Bones’ also failed a drug test ahead of UFC 200 and was suspended by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for one year.
During a recent appearance on Luke Thomas’ SiriusXM Rush show, Kawa talked about the possibility of Jones competing this year:
“If USADA are a respectable organization, which I think that they are, and they take all the information that they have compiled, all the interviews that they’ve done and all the things they’ve seen, they know for a fact that Jon Jones was not cheating and he was not intentionally taking any type of substance.”
“I think they know that and everybody can come to that conclusion based on the circumstances of his situation. That’s the most I am going to say at this point because obviously, it’s on-going. I’d like to say that there’s about a 95-percent chance he fights this year.”
Current light-heavyweight champion and arch-rival of Jones, Daniel Cormier has moved up in weight to try and capture the heavyweight title. It is expected that ‘DC‘ will not return to the light-heavyweight division as he nears closer to retirement. This begs the question as to what Jones will decide to do. Will he go back and run the light-heavyweight division as he previously has or will he go and spoil the party for Cormier one last time?
