Steve Collins believes McGregor can “Shock the boxing world”

Former Irish boxing champion gives his take on the super fight

With news coming in suggesting that the super fight between Conor McGregor & Floyd Mayweather is all but official, a former boxing champion talks about why he believes McGregor can shock the world.

Steve Collins is the former WBO super-middleweight champion and knows a thing or two about the squared circle. Collins went the distance twice with Chris Eubank beating him both times, he also TKO’d Nigel Benn twice – which is a massive feat.

When pressed on the potential match-up between McGregor & Mayweather, Collins states that whilst many in the boxing community believe Mayweather would beat McGregor easily, he feels completely the opposite.

Collins believes that Mayweather has been stalling the bout because he knows how capable McGregor is in pulling off the upset. With the right amount of training, McGregor could stop one of the greatest boxers of all time, shocking the boxing world.

“I can see how Conor can beat Mayweather with the right coaching. I could tell you how he could beat Mayweather, I can see him doing it. A victory for Conor is something that can definitely happen and I think he will shock the world” Collins said.

When discussing why other boxers such as Oscar De La Hoya and Saul Alvarez are mocking the potential matchup, Collins believes that they are simply just jealous.

“The guys who are calling this a mockery are just upset because they aren’t in the headlines. If they were in the middle of this and they were fighting McGregor they wouldn’t be saying any of this, it’s just jealousy.”

The Irish boxing legend further stated that they should all just keep their mouths shut and to “concentrate on their own careers” and that they are jealous that both Mayweather & McGregor stand to make a substantial fortune off of this super fight. “Conor and Mayweather are going to make a fortune, they’re creating interest that is unprecedented.”

Collins has apparently already discussed with his brother Pascal how McGregor could beat Mayweather, and he believes he has the game plan that would end Mayweather’s impressive unbeaten streak which currently stands at 49-0.

McGregor previously trained at Pascal’s gym in Ireland where he worked on his boxing skills – Collin’s is more than willing to lend a helping hand in McGregor’s preparations in facing “Money” Mayweather. “There would be absolutely no problems at all if Conor wanted me to work with him for this camp” Collins stated.
