Russian Fighter choked, beaten and shot over ‘Conor McGregor argument’
Rasul Mirzaev, a Russian fighter with 17 wins from 18 bouts, is assaulted as he left his home in Moscow on New Year’s Eve. He is shot three times with a BB gun, once in the face, as well as being beaten with a baseball bat and choked with a chain. Mirzaev is in a stable condition after receiving surgery to have the bullets removed. According to an unknown source, the argument started when Mirzaev sat in a bar with Artem Lobov, McGregor’s training partner. The fighters were taunted by men from Dagestan who said McGregor was afraid to face undefeated fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, who comes from Dagestan. However, Artem denies the claims, and the incident is still under police investigation: “I did meet Mirzaev in Russia. I am so shocked that this happened to him but it’s nothing to do with me” Lobov said.
