Well, it now appears we have an answer. Andre Pederneiras revealed during a recent ‘Fox Fight Club‘ that Aldo had suffered a leg injury that prevented him from throwing his famous and debilitating leg kicks.
Penderneiras revealed, “Aldo had a leg injury, he couldn’t do any kicking throughout the camp, he couldn’t run.” he explained that during the fight Aldo was avoiding using the kicks because of this injury and they “were afraid the muscle would tear there.”
Aldo changed up his fight camp to focus on his boxing and takedowns, this would allow him to avoid the kicking game. “We spent the entire fight camp working on boxing, takedowns and the ground” explained Pederneiras – “Aldo felt good in the first two rounds, he won the first two.”
Pederneiras states that when Holloway landed a punch in the third round the whole gameplan fell apart right there and then, upon seeing Aldo was hurt Max jumped on him and “left no chance for Aldo to recover.”
Pederneiras states that Aldo does want a rematch with Max, however, he feels Aldo will have to take another fight first before being in a contenders position – So far suggested opponents include Cub Swanson, the two had previously met during their WEC days, where Aldo scored an 8-second knockout over the Californian native.
Andre has many congratulations for the new champ stating that Holloway is a humble and respectful person. When pressed on who’d win in a matchup between Holloway and former contender Frankie Edgar, Pederneries states “It’s a very tough fight, Edgar is a very experienced fighter, very well rounded, he’s a handful for anyone in the division.”
