Prominant MMA Journalist Ariel Helwani Confirms Khabib Vs Ferguson and Woodley Vs Wonderboy 2 for UFC 209
The very well respected journalist says it’s “not quite 100% yet but that’s what they want.”
Ariel Helwani, editor at MMAFighting.com who was named MMA Jo0urnalist Of The Year from the World MMA Awards in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, the journalist who received a lifetime ban from UFC events for being too good at reporting (he revealed Brock Lesnar would return at UFC 200 hours before the UFC announced it) has said via his Twitter that Khabib Nurmagomedov will fight Tony Ferguson and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson will fight Tyron Woodley for the second time at UFC 209.
The plan has always been Khabib/Ferguson and Woodley/Wonderboy 2 at 209. Still the plan. Both not quite 100% yet but that's what they want. https://t.co/1QZsNaZYje

This is going to be huge. With Mark Hunt Vs Alistair Overeem and Paul “Bearjew” Craig Vs Tyson Pedro already announced for 209 (Hunt Vs Overeem, Craig Vs Pedro), if these two fights pan out (like Helwani said, it’s not 100% yet) 209 could be a strong contender for card of the year, and we ain’t even half way through the year.
Woodley Vs Wonderboy 2 seems very possible considering their last epic fight at UFC 205 ended in a draw after 5 rounds, and boy, what a fight it was. MMA fans the world over can’t wait to see that again.
Khabib vs Ferguson is less likely however, throughout the week Khabib has been trying to coax Ferguson into a fight by offering to personally pay Ferguson $200k for the fight if the UFC don’t want to do it. However, Ferguson has almost definitely turned down the offer, leaving the question “Will this fight ever happen?” There’s a lot of hope that it will considering some consider the 24-0 Khabib Nurmagomedov to be the uncrowned champ at 155lbs, with Tony Ferguson being a very strong contender for ending Khabib’s perfect record.
