VanZant confirmed the news recently when speaking on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani.

“I signed my contract” VanZant said. “I am fighting on January 14. I mean, the UFC hasn’t announced it yet, but everyone can get ready because I’m just excited to get back in there. I’m tired of waiting, I’m tired of seeing all these fights announced and then watching all these amazing fights on TV and not being able to talk about mine. So yeah, St. Louis, Missouri, I’m coming, I’m so excited.”

It has been rumoured that her opponent will be Jessica Rose-Clark.

When asked if these rumours were true, VanZant refused to go into too much detail.

“I don’t know if I can say that yet, but I am fighting on January 14” VanZant said. “I don’t want to get in too much trouble.”

VanZant did, however, reveal that she watched Rose-Clark’s victory over former opponent Bec Rawlings and admitted that she was very impressed with her performance.

“It was a great debut” VanZant said. “It’s awesome that she’s in the flyweight division, my new division, so I’m very excited. I’ve seen a lot of talent in this division so I’m excited to see where it goes.”

VanZant is making the move from the strawweight division to the new flyweight division and hasn’t had the chance to scout out potential opponents at her new weight. However, she is looking forward to potentially sharing the Octagon with Rose-Clark or whoever else the UFC want her to face off with.

“You just focus on the people that are in your division within the UFC and then there are people coming up from all sorts of different areas and different promotions that I haven’t quite heard of yet, but yeah I watched their fight and I loved it” VanZant said. “I thought it was a great fight.”

UFC Fight Night 124 is set to take place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
