Muhammed Mokaev: One to watch
Take a look the rising flyweight prospect, The Black Tiger
Muhammed Mokaev is a name you will want to remember. He is a fighter that many would love to see and expect to see compete inside the UFC octagon. The Dagestan native is a top prospect in the UK’s amateur flyweight division and also has a victory at bantamweight. Mokaev is still only 16 years of age but that hasn’t stopped him competing at a high level as he picked up a decision win over the second-ranked flyweight in the UK, Liam Gittins to take home the Tanko Fighting Championship amateur flyweight championship in February. He now boasts an amateur record of 5-0.
Mokaev, like most fighters to come out of Dagestan, has a strong wrestling base, a craft in which he has been honing since a very young age. If you factor in his blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu as well, “The Black Tiger” isn’t someone you want to end up on the ground with. Mokaev is also dangerous on his feet as he is always working on his already excellent boxing skills which have resulted in one of his five wins coming via a second round knockout. Mokaev can also deliver a wicked suplex which is referred to by Mokaev himself as ‘Dagestan Airlines’, something he is now becoming known for.
His strong wrestling attributes are only going to improve and it could be a real problem for flyweight and bantamweight divisions across the world, including those amongst the ranks of the UFC. With Mokaev only being 16, he still has a long way to go to get to where he wants to be but he certainly has the talent, attitude and work ethic to go all the way to the top of the UFC. No news has been revealed regarding Mokaev’s next fight but the young prospect is expected to defend his flyweight championship sometime in the next few months which could be the first defence of his championship on the road to UFC gold. You can see the full clash with Liam Gittins below.
