UFC featherweight champion and lightweight contender Conor McGregor has quashed rumours of a sabbatical following UFC 205 on Thursday’s media conference call. When quizzed on the talk of a break McGregor was quick to answer, ‘Don’t be listening to people like that, people like that know nothing that’s got to deal with what’s going on here.’ following by saying, ‘I don’t know if you can take time off in this life. I just stay working, stay creating history. Stay changing the game.’

McGregor was keen to remind everyone of what a win against lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez will yield for the UFC’s history. A first in the UFC, a concurrent multiple weight class champion. When asked if he was going to vacate one of the belts McGregor stated, ‘Why not defend them both?’ An audacious task, especially if Dana White keeps to his promise of relinquishing McGregor of the featherweight title.

It’s quite fitting then, with UFC 205 being the first MMA event in Madison Square Garden, New York, that the UFC and McGregor could make even more history.

Will McGregor keep the hype train going? Or will Alvarez derail McGregor’s hopes? Let us know what you think in the comments.
