Michael Johnson could offer little to stop Khabib Nurmagomedov’s terrifying ground and pound in the pair’s fight. Johnson started energetically, staying on his toes and always looking to throw shots when the opportunities came. However, it wasn’t enough once Nurmagomedov settled and started shooting for the takedowns. Johnson looked powerless as he tried to force the action back to a standing position.

Once Nurmagomedov finally submitted Johnson in the 3rd round by kimura, he took to the microphone:
This demand for the shot was something Tony Ferguson failed to do after his victory over former champion Rafael Dos Anjos, which came as unexpected from the MMA community as Ferguson is enjoying a nine fight win streak, the longest ever for a lightweight in the UFC.
The prospect of Nurmagomedov facing off against Conor McGregor is an exciting one, with Johnson exposing a little of Nurmagomedov’s stand up with some plush shots in the first round, and McGregor lacking a wrestling base to combat Nurmagomedov’s sambo it would be a meeting of the unstoppable force and the immovable object.
I can’t wait.
