Invicta champion Megan Anderson set for first defence

Anderson was in talks to fight Cris Cyborg in the UFC.

Another day, another potential Cris Cyborg fight falls through!

This time it comes via Invicta FC 145lb champion Megan Anderson. Anderson had previously been in talks to move over to the UFC and fight Cyborg in the newly created women’s featherweight division.

It seems now however that the fight will no longer take place, well not in the immediate future at least. Anderson instead will defend her Invicta 145lb belt against Helena Kolesnyk at Invicta FC 24 on July 15th.

Anderson claimed the Invicta 145lb gold back in March when Cyborg vacated the belt to move onto the UFC, Anderson had previously won the interim 145lb title back in January at Invicta FC 21 after knocking out Charmine Tweet – She was then promoted to undisputed featherweight champion after the departure of Cyborg.

Anderson had previously been asking the UFC for a shot at Cyborg at UFC 214 sending out several tweets indicating she wanted the fight, however, it seems as though this has fallen on deaf ears.

Ukrainian top contender Helena Kolesnyk is currently undefeated at 5-0 (1 NC) and is making her Invicta debut, her previous outing ended with a TKO win over Tatiana Portnova at Tech-Krep FC 13 in just 25 seconds. She also won in 25 seconds in her previous fight before that, as she forced opponent Zhenlin Liu to submit to punches at WBK 19 back in September.

Australian Megan Anderson is currently 8-2 in her MMA career and has wins over Ultimate Fighter Season 18 contestant Peggy Morgan, as well as Amanda Bell and Amber Leibrock.

Invicta FC 24 takes place on July 15th in Kansas City, the event will air live on UFC Fight Pass.

EDIT – Cris Cyborg has now been booked for UFC 214
